a message from the artist

Hi! I’m Geneviève Diotte, the artist behind Vague d’ici (The Lost Mermaid).
Originally from Balmoral and now based in the Acadian Peninsula, I draw inspiration from the sea, the tides, and everything that brings me back to the water. After more than ten years in the public service, I decided in 2024 to dive into my creative world full-time, a decision driven by passion and a desire to share Acadia in a different way.
Through my hand-drawn stippled illustrations, I aim to highlight our local species, our coastline, our stories, and our little corner of the world.
At the Artists’ Cabin, I share my world with you. Along with my illustrations and creations, visitors of all ages are invited to touch, observe, create, play, and learn more about the species and little treasures found in our area. Seashells, sea glass, creative activities, marine discoveries, and local curiosities come together in a space where there’s always something new to discover.
And most importantly, come say hello! I love sharing the stories behind my drawings, talking about the species that inspire them, and introducing you, in my own way, to everything that makes the Acadian Peninsula so unique. Many of the species featured at the Artists’ Cabin can even be observed just a few steps away, right inside the Aquarium.
Welcome to my world, made of tiny dots, patience, and lots of heart.
